Error resolution
Regulation E's procedure for a consumer to report an error on an account and for the institution to investigate.
Error resolution is the procedure under the US Regulation E by which a consumer notifies a financial institution of an error on an electronic fund transfer account, such as an unauthorized transfer or an incorrect amount, and the institution must investigate and report its findings within set deadlines. If the investigation takes longer, the institution generally must credit the account provisionally in the meantime. Agent-initiated transfers fall under the same procedure, so institutions need records that show what the agent was allowed to do.
