APP fraud reimbursement
UK rules requiring payment firms to reimburse victims of authorised push payment scams, within set conditions.
APP fraud reimbursement is the UK requirement, set by the Payment Systems Regulator, for payment firms to reimburse consumers who are tricked into authorising a push payment to a fraudster, subject to conditions, a maximum amount and exceptions. The cost is shared between the sending and receiving firms. Because the victim authorised the payment, these rules exist alongside, not inside, the rules on unauthorised transactions, and they raise the question of how scams that manipulate an agent rather than a person will be treated.
