Under the US Regulation Z, a billing error on a credit card account includes charges the consumer did not make or authorise, charges for goods or services not accepted or not delivered as agreed, and computational mistakes. The consumer can send a written notice, and the creditor must acknowledge it and resolve the dispute within set periods, without trying to collect the disputed amount meanwhile. This is one of the legal bases behind card dispute rights that customers expect when an agent buys for them.
