Third-party provider (TPP)
The common name for providers that access accounts held elsewhere, such as account information and payment initiation providers.
Third-party provider is the common name, used by supervisors and industry, for payment service providers that access customers' accounts held at another provider, mainly account information service providers and payment initiation service providers. A TPP must be registered or authorised and identify itself to the account provider, typically with qualified certificates in the European Union. An agent's operator either becomes a TPP or works through one to use open banking.
