Settlement finality
The point at which a transfer becomes irrevocable and unconditional, so it cannot be unwound.
Settlement finality is the point at which a transfer of funds or assets becomes irrevocable and unconditional. The CPMI-IOSCO Principles for Financial Market Infrastructures require financial market infrastructures to provide clear and certain final settlement, and the moment of finality should be defined in their rules. For agentic finance, knowing when a payment becomes final tells an agent and its principal when an action can no longer be reversed through the system itself.
