Human oversight
Measures that let people understand, monitor and, when needed, override or stop a high-risk AI system.
Under the EU AI Act, high-risk AI systems must be designed so that natural persons can effectively oversee them while they are in use. The people assigned must be able to understand the system's capacities and limitations, stay aware of automation bias, interpret its output correctly, decide not to use it or to override or reverse its output, and intervene or interrupt it through a stop procedure. For agents, oversight is designed into the flow: which steps need approval, who is alerted and how the agent can be halted.
