# Record retention

> Keeping records that evidence compliance for a minimum period, so they are available to supervisors and in disputes.

Record retention is the obligation to keep records that evidence compliance for a minimum period, so they are available to supervisors, auditors and parties to a dispute. The US Regulation E, for example, requires covered persons to retain evidence of compliance with its requirements for a set period, and EU and UK rules impose similar duties for payments and AI logs. For agents, retention must cover the mandate and the context around each action, not only the final payment record.
