# Mandate expiry

> The point after which a mandate no longer authorises anything, as a fixed end time or on completion of a task.

Mandate expiry is the point after which a mandate no longer authorises anything, set as a fixed end time or tied to an event such as completion of a single purchase. Short validity limits the damage if a mandate or token leaks and requires a fresh decision by the principal for new activity. Expiry should be checked by the party executing the action at the moment of execution, not only when the mandate was issued.
